Visiting Assistant Faculty Position
Department of Mathematics, Harvey Mudd College

Harvey Mudd College invites applications for the position of Visiting Professor in Mathematics for the 2024-2025 academic year. All areas of the mathematical sciences will be considered.

Eligible candidates must hold a PhD before July 30, 2024. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduates. Harvey Mudd College is committed to broadening participation in STEM fields. Therefore, experience with or demonstrated commitment to mentor, teach, and support students from historically underrepresented groups in STEM is among the criteria for appointment. The visitor will teach five courses during the 2024-25 academic year. The specific courses will be finalized with the visiting professor, but are expected to include courses in areas such as multivariable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and statistics. The candidate will also have the opportunity to engage in the department’s undergraduate research activities such as senior thesis, and math-in-industry senior capstone projects.

Harvey Mudd College is a highly selective liberal arts college of engineering, science, and mathematics. It is located in Claremont, CA, which is approximately 35 miles east of Los Angeles. The College enrolls about 900 students, almost all of whom live on campus, and is a member of the Claremont Colleges, which comprises five undergraduate colleges and two graduate schools.

Applicants should submit (1) a cover letter, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a statement about your teaching philosophy, including principles, practices, or experiences that inform the way you teach, and the ways in which you design them to work toward greater inclusivity, equity, and justice in the mathematical sciences, (4) a statement about your research program, and (5) at least three letters of recommendation. At least one letter should specifically address teaching. 

The salary for the position is $85,000 for a 9-month contract.
